What to Wear for a Maternity Photoshoot

What to Wear for a Maternity Photoshoot

Wardrobe makes a bigger difference to how a maternity photo reads than almost anything else in the session. Here's the practical version of this advice, not the generic version.

Maternity photoshoot wardrobe

Fit over volume

Fitted fabric photographs better than loose fabric

Fitted or gently draped fabric shows the shape you're photographing for. Very loose or boxy clothing tends to flatten it in photos, even if it's more comfortable to wear day-to-day.

Colour and pattern

Solid, muted colours- sage, terracotta, cream, dusty blue- photograph more cleanly than busy prints, which can compete with the subject in frame. If you love a pattern, wear it as a smaller layer rather than the main piece.

If nothing at home feels right

Every studio session includes access to a range of maternity gowns and wraps in different sizes- so wardrobe stress doesn't have to be part of your prep. We'll send a short styling guide after booking either way.
