What a Modelling Portfolio Needs Before You Submit

What a Modelling Portfolio Needs Before You Submit to Agencies

Agencies scan fast- often ten seconds a portfolio. Here's genuine insider guidance on what needs to be in that ten seconds.

Model portfolio core shots

The core shots

Headshot, three-quarter, full-length

Most agencies want, at minimum: a clean headshot with natural expression, a three-quarter shot, and a full-length shot. One or two versatile additional looks round this out- more than that starts diluting the set rather than strengthening it.

Consistency over one standout image

Agencies are judging how you photograph repeatedly, not once. A portfolio with one striking image and four inconsistent ones reads worse than five solid, consistent frames.

Keep retouching natural

Heavy filtering or retouching works against you- agencies need to see what you actually look like, since that's what shows up at a casting. Natural skin retouching is standard; anything more is a red flag to an experienced agency eye.
